On the Slate: Three Projects in Development
A drama, a music series and a short film about getting in the room. All three are in development.

Married to the Hustle (in development). A feature-length drama inspired by the book of the same name, with a web-series version also being written. Casting, financing and dates have not been announced.
Soundtrack of the 252 (in development). The music desk of this magazine and a growing series built around Eastern North Carolina artists, producers and the businesses around them. Artists and businesses can pitch a story with credits and a rights contact.
Get in the Room (concept). A short vertical film that follows a fictional young creative through a day of studio sessions, client pitches and a video shoot in Greenville. A concept cut exists. It remains a concept piece and will be labeled as AI-generated wherever it is shown.
The state picture. Film and TV productions spent an estimated $185.5 million in North Carolina in 2025 across 38 productions in 45 counties, creating more than 7,000 crew, talent and background job opportunities, according to NC Commerce. This fall, after new grant-making was put on hold, legislative leaders backed a one-time $31 million addition to the state film grant, with an appropriation vote expected in November, Port City Daily reported. The catch for the 252: the Film Office has been told to prioritize projects in New Hanover County and surrounding counties. Gov. Josh Stein called limiting it to one region “wrong-headed.”
