Workforce & Opportunity

Skills first: how the Hip Hop Peoples pathways are organized, and what this month's jobs numbers say about the state.

FEATURE

Learn. Practice. Build Your Portfolio.

Four pathway families turn what people already do into skills they can show.

Most people in the 252 already have skills that never show up on a résumé: running a sound system at a cookout, shooting video for a friend's business, fixing a porch, talking someone through a hard week. The Hip Hop Peoples pathways start there.

The framework runs from identity and purpose to skills, evidence and opportunity. For the public, it comes down to three steps: learn the basics, practice them with people who have done the work, and build a portfolio that shows what you can do.

The pathways are grouped into four families. Creative & Music covers arts and media, community and culture, and legacy work. Justice & Reentry covers resource navigation, wellness education and hands-on learning; it is education and navigation, not legal or clinical services. Trades & Property covers carpentry and construction, and property maintenance and urban farming. Digital & Business covers tech and innovation, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.

Anyone 18 or older can add their name to the list and pick the pathways that fit them on Discover Your Path. A real person follows up. Joining is an interest list, not enrollment, a credential or a job.
